The first official piece was a Park exclusive of Dumbo. Swarovski created five different versions of Dumbo between 1987 and 1988. Then in 1990 and 1993 two other versions were released. Their second piece was released in 2001, of Cinderella and her glass slipper and it reitred in 2005. In 2005 Mickey and Friends were released, where Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto's classic poses were depicted. Including a mouse-ear shaped title plaque and display base, this set retired in 2008. This is when one of the first Disney Swarovski Limited Edition piece, Tinkerbell. She came with her own star-shaped title plaque that says 'Tinkerbell 2008'. She is now one of the most desired pieces on the secondy market, going for over $1000 on Ebay!
In 2007 Winnie The Pooh and Pals were released. Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet along with a honeypot title plaque and display base. Pooh features an unfaceted face and arms along with a liat siam shirt, holding a faceted balloon on a metal ribbon. There was also a promotion going on if you spend $240 (CAD) or more you recieve a free lithograph with purchase. All pieces but Pooh retired this year in the 3rd quarter. They are no longer available online or through retail stores, unless the store has not sold out of their stock (which most have!). We have accumulated the entire set, including the rare lithograph. The lithograph contains a certificate of authenticity. Only available while supplies lasts. The pictures really do not do justice for these pieces! Once you see them in person they take your breath away.
In 2008, Bambi was also released, along with Flower, Thumper, Owl and a title plaque. The famous scene of a butterfly landing on Bambi's tail was depicted in very finely detailed Austrian crystal, with an aurora borealis crystal butterfly. The display base was butterfly-shaped to match. Bambi also had a promotional lithograph that came with a $240+ purchase, while supplies lasts. Bambi is not retired yet, but will probably retired soon.
Last year, 2009 the first Large Limited Edition Disney piece was released, standing over 6" in height, was a stunning Sorcerer Mickey. A Small Limited Edition version of Sorcerer Mickey was also released, with 2009 etched beside the swan logo on the bottom of the back of his cape. He has a black, faceted crystal head, as well as a topaz crystal belt. Now retired.
Earlier this year Pinocchio was released as the Limited Edition Disney character of 2010. He says "Walt Disney's Pinocchio" and 2010 on the base. He features black diamond crystal hair, a feather in kakadu red and golden shadow crystal, a medium sapphire bow and jet crystal eyes. Retires December 2010.
We will post next time with our other pieces and information!
